How Sudoku Battle works
Everything about matches, arenas, points and practice — the rules the game plays by, in plain language.
From tap to win in three steps
Tap Play
We find you an opponent at your level in your arena. No sign-up needed — you start as a guest.
Race on the same puzzle
Both of you get the same grid. Fill it in correctly before your opponent does.
Climb the ladder
Wins earn points. Fill your level’s bar to level up and reach the next arena.
The rules of a match
Every ranked match and friend challenge follows the same rules. The server referees every move.
First to finish wins
The first player to complete the grid correctly wins. Correct digits are locked in as soon as you place them.
Mistakes cost you
A wrong digit is rejected and counted. Your input locks for 5 seconds, and 3 mistakes lose the match.
Beat the clock
Each arena has a time limit. If it runs out, the most correct cells wins; then the fewest mistakes; then it’s a draw.
Keep an eye on them
You see your opponent’s progress, mistakes and connection — never which cells they filled or with what.
No pausing
Quitting a match counts as a loss. If your connection drops you have 20 seconds to come back, and the clock keeps running.
Handy aids
Pencil notes, row, column and box highlighting, same-digit highlighting and a counter of what’s left for each digit.
The arenas
You start in Bronze. Each arena spans five levels, has its own puzzles and its own time limit.
| Arena | Levels | Clues | Time limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 1–5 | 42–49 | 10 min |
| Silver | 6–10 | 35–41 | 12 min |
| Gold | 11–15 | 28–31 | 14 min |
| Platinum | 16–20 | 24–27 | 16 min |
| Diamond | 21–25 | 22–25 | 18 min |
Points and levels
- A ranked win earns 25 points and a loss costs 15. A draw changes nothing.
- Reach 100 points to level up. Your points start again from zero at the new level.
- Lose at zero points and you drop a level, so every match matters.
- Silver opens from your very first level, and you can always play ranked in an arena below your own (without points).
Arena passes
Can’t wait? An arena pass opens one arena above yours for good. Ranked wins there are worth more — up to five times the points — while a loss costs that arena’s usual amount. The yearly subscription opens every arena at once.
Friend challenges
With a free account, add friends and challenge them in any arena you have unlocked, sending the challenge as a link or a code. Challenges are unranked: they appear in your match history but never change your points.
Practice
Choose an unlocked arena and play its puzzles alone. A stopwatch counts up with no limit, mistakes never end the game, and your best time in each arena is saved on your phone. You need a connection to get a new puzzle, not to play it.
Free, with ads
Sudoku Battle is free to play. Now and then an ad may appear after a result — never during a match. The yearly subscription removes every ad and opens every arena.
